Description

Silence, memory, and humanity – three themes that permeate an extraordinary evening with the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra at the Municipal House. The program opens with the meditative Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten, in which Estonian composer Arvo Pärt creates a deep space for contemplation from a simple musical gesture. This is followed by the monumental War Requiem by Benjamin Britten – one of the most powerful anti-war works of the 20th century. In it, Britten combines the Latin text of the requiem with poems by fallen soldier Wilfred Owen, creating an oratorio that powerfully reminds us of the cost of human conflicts.
