As part of a unique collaboration between the Château d'Oron and the Swiss Wallpaper Museum in Mézières, the artist Sève Favre is developing a two-part project around invasive plant species, colonial history, and botanical aesthetics. With this dual project, the artist offers a critical and poetic reinterpretation of the plant world: no longer just decoration or resource, but as a living memory that is simultaneously witness, actor, and revealer of past and present power dynamics. Starting from the wallpapers of the Château de Mézières, Sève Favre explores the connections between floral motifs and the introduction of invasive plant species in Europe. From Indiennes fabrics to Chinese decorations, a colonial narrative unfolds about trade, taste, and power. Plants like the glandular balsam and golden bamboo become witnesses to these circulations. “Némésis végétale” evokes a revenge of the living and makes visible the lasting impacts of this history on our landscapes. Carried by a poetic, participatory vision deeply rooted in life, Sève Favre is a multidisciplinary Swiss artist whose work explores the connections between humans, memory, interactive processes, and ecology. Her works have been exhibited in Switzerland and abroad in museums such as the Gutenberg Museum in Fribourg (CH) and the CICA Museum in Seoul, as well as in galleries like the Fondation WRP in Geneva, the PS122 Gallery in New York, or La Gran Gallery in Madrid. She has also been presented at fairs such as DesignTO in Toronto, in artist residencies like MASS MoCA in the USA or the Pedvale Art Museum in Latvia, and in international biennials, especially Bienalsur 2021 and the Larnaca Biennale.
