Description
Climate change is firmly affecting Switzerland. Since the end of the 19th century, we have experienced a warming of about 3 degrees Celsius in the Alpine region. The consequences are unmistakable: stronger and longer heatwaves, shrinking glaciers, milder and snow-poor winters, and a significantly higher freezing level. At the same time, heavier precipitation increases, while summer droughts become more frequent. We observe these changes in Engadin and the Swiss National Park as well – they pose great challenges to nature and society. In his lecture, Sven Kotlarski takes a brief journey into the causes of climate change and then returns to Engadin. What will the climate of the future look like? What risks and opportunities does climate change present, and how can we address it? Are the worst consequences and impacts still avoidable? Speaker: Sven Kotlarski, Dr., Climatologist, MeteoSwiss | Hotel Reine Victoria, St. Moritz. 5 minutes from the Hallenbad bus stop or 25 minutes on foot from the train station.
