Hymns for imaginary countries What can AI teach us about our way of representing our nation-states? With a quirky humor, Maja S. K Ratkje tries to answer this question. Technological development has gradually surpassed many geographical and cultural boundaries. This process allows us to rethink the concept of nation as a collective space, where fundamental moral rights form the basis of coexistence. Based on this reflection, composer Maja S. K. Ratkje asks herself: what could a technical and structured system like artificial intelligence tell us if humans asked it to reflect on how we present our nation-states? From this question, a work of about an hour emerges, where theater and music transcend their disciplinary boundaries to become spaces of narration and reflection. Through social, political, and religious themes, the work uses the form of the national anthem as a tool for analyzing human rights and as a denunciation of the risk that borders become new forms of oppression. With this project, the Nouvel Ensemble Contemporain inaugurates a new edition of the Festival Les Amplitudes 2027, in the historic hall of the Temple Allemand, an emblematic place of La Chaux-de-Fonds' cultural life.
