Description

Michael Quattlebaum Jr. is one of the very few early and bold reformers of rap. In the early 2010s, they announced a hip-hop world that is just as bouncy and pushing, but without misogyny, overflowing vanity, and greed: "I am perceived as such an outsider in hip-hop that I feel almost like a terrorist regarding rap." The non-negotiable openness to every harsh reality of life, a socialization on the streets and in poetry, in punk and the riot grrrl movement, as well as a constant standing in between and fluid understanding of gender are, of course, extraordinary in rap, but Blanco's art also holds a special place in the pop world. By now, the terrorist has become a kind of star and has collaborated on the way out of the underground with, for example, Madonna, Michael Stipe, Anohni, Charli XCX, Kathleen Hanna, and many more.
