Music Performance «Reflection»

Description

«Reflection» is an interdisciplinary concert that combines new compositions for solo cello into a dynamic performance. The concert is performed at various positions within the concert hall to create an immersive audio-visual experience. Through the scenic direction by Miriam Götz, the music is connected with performance, light, video, and installations. The performance is a feminist statement and a response to the Sacher Variations for solo cello from 1976; a new cycle of cello works for a new century that reflects on changes in society, culture, and contemporary music fifty years later. By commissioning works from female and transgender composers, the project is a curatorial statement against the patriarchal legacy of the 20th century, encouraging the audience to reflect on the challenges of overcoming sexist practices in today's new music. The compositions celebrate the diversity of sounds, styles, and techniques present today. The intensive collaboration between the composers and cellist Benjamin Coyte, the use of electronics and visual media, as well as the staged, performative concept represent contemporary practice today. The program includes ten new compositions by composers Michelle Agnes Magalhães, Annie Aries, Carolyn Chen, inti figgis-vizueta, Jenny Hettne, Ezko Kikoutchi, Svetlana Maraš, Naomi Pinnock, Gemma Ragués Pujol, and Agata Zubel.
