Vilde Frang - Artist in Residence is characterized by an almost ethereal, fragile sensuality in her way of making music. She combines the supernatural in music with the reality of the finite in a special way. For her extravagant Heavenly Music program, Vilde Frang has invited a selection of the most interesting artistic personalities to Ascona.

The musical spectrum ranges from archaic rhythms to profound reflections on life and transience. Gérard Grisey's "Stèle" kicks things off: two drums create an unforgettable sound experience that makes time stand still. In "Reminiscence", Toshio Hosokawa uses the marimba to create an atmosphere that builds up between silence and sound according to the principle of Zen Buddhism. Hosokawa weaves delicate, Far Eastern threads of sound that echo in the silence.

In "...oder soll es Tod bedeuten", Mendelssohn's songs on texts by Heinrich Heine merge with instrumental intermezzi by Aribert Reimann to form a new, fragile whole. Reimann arranged eight songs and a fragment by Mendelssohn for soprano and string quartet.

Shostakovich's 15th Symphony is heard in an original arrangement for piano trio and percussion. His symphonic legacy is full of quotations from Rossini to Wagner. An intimate, highly exciting musical chamber play between irony and farewell.
