After novels and theater texts for adult readers, the Vienna-based writer, columnist, and painter Julya Rabinowich now presents her fourth youth book, "Mo & Moritz" (Hanser, 2026). The book, nominated as "Youth Book of the Month" by the German Academy for Children's and Youth Literature, centers on two teenagers fighting for their love and overcoming prejudices. Mo (Mohammed) comes from a family with Muslim roots. When he begins an apprenticeship as a hairdresser in a Vienna luxury salon, a glamorous world opens up to him. Behind the scenes of the Vienna Opera Ball, he meets Moritz, a boy from a Jewish family, and falls in love. Mo is on cloud nine – and at the same time gets cold feet: What if his family finds out? Will he ever be able to stand by Moritz and his love? Julya Rabinowich tells a clever and beautiful modern love story that must assert itself against the cultural and political conflicts of our time.
