Description

Atlanta 1948: The 72-year-old wealthy Miss Daisy causes a car accident. Her son Boolie then assigns the Black chauffeur Hoke Coleburn to her. The headstrong, educated Southern lady initially stubbornly refuses to accept his help. Hoke, calm and wise, meets her arrogance with patience and dignity. Step by step, he gains her trust; what initially has the charm of a rebellious taming develops into a social play with depth and subtle overtones and undertones, without completely resolving the play of closeness and distance between the two main characters. The real historical context from which the two protagonists come already provides enough combustible material for lasting tension, spheres that could hardly be more different: on the one hand, the wealthy, educated Jewish Southern lady, on the other, the black employee from the lower class in an era when racial segregation in the USA still almost naturally determined people's everyday lives.
