The Minyo Crusaders are a ten-member big band from Japan that proudly celebrates their love for Japanese folk songs (Min’yō). "Min’yō is for the Japanese the folk music that is both closest and farthest from them," says bandleader Katsumi Tanaka. Its essence is deeply rooted in them, even if they are not always aware of it. The band breathes new life into the traditional folk songs of the Japanese working class by blending them with Latin American, African, and Caribbean rhythms, dressing them in powerful, inventive arrangements. The excellence of this mix is evident not only in the fact that the Moods team has been ardent fans since their performance in 2023. Renowned artists like Iggy Pop and Ry Cooder are also enthusiastic. The latter even called the Minyo Crusaders "the best band I have heard in many years."
