Description

A performance in French with German surtitles. A New Year's Eve in Ostend during a snowstorm: an aging actor enters the lobby of a hotel. It is Minetti. He claims to be a famous actor who has not performed on stage for thirty years. He also claims to have an appointment with a theater director who wants to offer him a final role... Portrayed by the charismatic Josse De Pauw, star of Belgian cinema and theater, Minetti tells his story while melodies by Schubert and Chopin play in the background from the bar. Between Thomas Bernhard's notoriously grim humor and deep melancholy, this text by the Austrian playwright is a moving contemplation on existence as an artist, the essence and claim of art itself, and the refusal of any compromises. An appeal that the only lost battles are those you have stopped fighting.
