The Colombian artist Luisa Fernanda Alfonso brings to life the archetypal attitudes of Mexican character dancers and mariachi in this black and white sequential performance. Her Madonna-like face, framed by a strict bun, her proud posture, and her high-heeled boots, she combines femininity and masculinity, flowing ruffles and a tight leotard, adding a twist to folklore with her polarizing interpretation.
In collaboration with composer Peter Rubel, in a space where sound material is a full-fledged playing partner, Luisa Fernanda Alfonso takes hold then abandons, constructs then deconstructs vocal and choreographic traditions.
