In a small Parisian apartment: Marlene Dietrich and Viv, her long-time companion through the highs and lows of her legendary career. Withdrawn from the world, the days pass by. But today, it feels as if the past becomes tangible and alive again. In a dramatic confrontation, the world star confronts her own myth.
Sven Ratzke plays Marlene Dietrich and breathes new soul into her songs. He senses in her biography the challenge to reinvent herself in the various facets of her personality. He immerses himself in the figure of Marlene to face her radiance – as he has already done in various programs about the music legend David Bowie in sold-out venues from New York City to Sydney, from Amsterdam to London.
The singer and entertainer, known internationally for his artistic shows and excellent music, has established himself as a world-class stage star. "Marlene Dietrich moved between genders and showed enormous courage in her stubbornness and absolute perfectionism. Trapped in fame and lost in a persona she created herself. I look into the mirror she holds up to our time and all artists, see myself and seek her. What a challenge!" From this perspective, the reworking of the original version of the play by Pam Gems develops into a surprising, humorous, and touching story. An prologue and an epilogue, specially written for this performance by the renowned Dutch writer Connie Palmen, add additional lyrical and emotional spheres from the depths of Marlene's soul. The partner at the piano is the pianist and music producer Julian Bohn. Julia Herfst plays the young Viv, Marlene's friend and counterpart. Guntbert Warns directs this new version on a stage set by Ezio Toffolutti, enriched with costumes specially created by the British star fashion designer Ian Griffiths (Creative Director / Max Mara). A piece introduction at 6:30 PM takes place in the Small Hall.
