With just one instrument, Mario Batkovic creates music of orchestral power – intimate, hypnotic, and monumental. The Bernese composer, accordionist, and multi-instrumentalist defies conventional categories; at the core of his work is the radical exploration of the sonic, rhythmic, and mechanical possibilities of the accordion. Thus, he develops an independent sound cosmos where humans and instruments become a symbiosis.
His celebrated solo album MARIO BATKOVIC introduced this symphonic vision to a global audience. With INTROSPECTIO, he opened his cosmos for collaborations and new configurations. His work ranges from uncompromising solo performances to electronic music, film and video game music, and works for symphony orchestra and choir – characterized by sonic curiosity, physical intensity, and a constant pushing of musical boundaries.
In 2023, Batkovic was awarded the Swiss Music Prize. Over ten years after his first solo album, he now returns with MARIO BATKOVIC II on the accordion: more immediate, radical, and uncompromising than ever. Participants: Mario Batkovic
