Description
Marian Petrescu was born in 1970 in Bucharest and comes from a large family of musicians. He began playing the piano at the age of four. He studied at the Conservatory of Classical and Jazz in Sweden and later at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. With a solid classical education, his career as a jazz pianist, clearly inspired by Oscar Peterson, has been marked by international successes, performing alongside world-renowned jazz greats at significant festivals, including the Montreux Jazz Festival. It is no coincidence that his mentor in Paris, Martial Solal, calls him the 'Horowitz of jazz piano.' He has played with Toots Thielemans, Didier Lockwood, Ulf Wakenius, Ray Charles, and many more. Additionally, he was awarded a Grammy as a member of the Resonance Big Band. On this concert evening, Marian Petrescu dedicates himself, among other things, to the music of Sergei Rachmaninoff, whose works have a special connection to his artistic self-understanding. Rachmaninoff's combination of late romantic richness, emotional intensity, and the highest pianistic demands forms the starting point of the program. A special highlight includes excerpts from the 2nd Adagio sostenuto & 3rd Allegro Scherzando movements of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2, which will be performed in a specially arranged version. This arrangement opens up new sonic perspectives on the famous work without losing its poetic depth and dramatic tension.
