Description
For the first time, the works of Maria Lassnig (1919 Kappel am Krappfeld – 2014 Vienna) and Edvard Munch (1863 Løten – 1944 Ekley near Oslo) are shown in a joint exhibition. At first glance, the Austrian artist and the Norwegian painter seem to have little in common. However, in the dialogue of their works, surprising similarities become visible. Both used painting to make inner experiences visible: feelings, bodily sensations, and existential questions are at the center of their work. Color becomes a medium of expression for emotions and personal perception. The public tour invites visitors to discover the fascinating parallels between the two artists and to view their works in an exciting dialogue. With around 170 paintings and works on paper, the exhibition offers an impressive insight into two outstanding positions in art history.
