In short: Marc Ribot and his quartet between free improvisation, raw energy, and uncompromising musical risk. Marc Ribot has never tried to sound like a typical jazz guitarist. Since the 1980s, the New York guitarist has confidently moved between jazz, no wave, rock, improvisation, and avant-garde. As a longtime collaborator of Tom Waits, John Zorn, Robert Plant, and many other musicians, he is both a defining sideman and a distinctive bandleader. With Hurry Red Telephone, Ribot opens a new chapter. Together with drummer Chad Taylor and his long-time musical partner Sebastian Steinberg, a quartet is formed that continues the exploratory energy of his earlier band Spiritual Unity. On the European tour, saxophonist Briggan Krauss joins and adds another unpredictable color to the sound. Hurry Red Telephone stands for a performance without a safety net: intense, raw, and open to whatever can emerge in the moment. A concert that makes Marc Ribot's ongoing search for new forms of guitar playing audible.
