MAQUINA. (PT) Rock music has always come in waves, sometimes higher, sometimes lower. With the Portuguese band MAQUINA, the waves are rising again. And how great it is to dance so exuberantly to their new album "Body Transmission"! No wonder, as the trio from Lisbon has welded together their own dance-metal style from found pieces of legendary industrial bands of the eighties (KMFDM, Die Krupps, Ministry) and enriched it with post-punk, plenty of krautrock, sparkling noise, and experimental club music. The single "dança" sets the pace with a thumping bass drum and a rebellious heavy metal riff that drags us across the dance floor for four minutes and twenty seconds. This hypnotic fusion is played only with drums, bass, and electric guitar, along with a few effect devices to make the strings growl, with no electronics and certainly no soundtracks from a laptop. Purists, of course, who promise the future of rock music while rocking out on analog instruments without nostalgia. Pales (FR) A small introduction to the music of PALES is offered by their new EP "Crush". In these five songs lies everything that makes this band from Strasbourg so great: physical presence, controlled anarchy, razor-sharp precision, and emotional depth. The nervous energy of post-punk and no wave bubbles up, noise rock meets industrial and floating dark wave passages. Above all, Célia Souarits' spoken word evokes the coolness of Kim Gordon or the no-bullshit attitude of Peaches. You can hear that their songs emerge from long improvisations until they finally take on their solid – and always surprising – form, like liquid lead in a glass of water.
