Description
The Grammy-nominated musicians Manu Delago and Max ZT have formed a new duo that explores the sonic possibilities of their instruments, handpan and hammered dulcimer, in new ways. A sophisticated compositional style meets high improvisational artistry. Impressive and sensual sound worlds emerge, with sensitivity yet dynamic. “When I first heard Manu, I was blown away. It was his virtuosity and the unusual way he composes and plays his instrument,” explains Max ZT. The duo met almost 10 years ago when Manu Delago was on a USA tour. “At our first concert in New York in 2019, we mostly improvised, but over the years spontaneous ideas turned into full compositions. Last year we finally found the perfect time and place to record the music – an impressive 18th-century room in an even older monastery in the Tyrolean Alps. A duo facing each other whose members just turned 40? We just had to call the album Deuce,” recalls Manu Delago. The composer and percussionist has already toured over 50 countries. He has worked with renowned artists such as Björk, Anoushka Shankar, and The Cinematic Orchestra. As a soloist, he has performed with the Metropole Orkest and the London Symphony Orchestra, among others. In his multiple award-winning music film “Parasol Peak,” Manu Delago leads his 7-member ensemble on a mountain expedition. In 2021 and 2023, the adventurous musician launched the ReCycling Tour, a sustainable concert tour by bicycle, during which his band and crew cycled 1500 kilometers across Europe. Max ZT, celebrated as “the Jimi Hendrix of the hammered dulcimer” (NPR), has redefined the playing style of his instrument through decades of experience and innovation, incorporating various traditions from Africa to India into his studies. The Brooklyn-based musician is a founding member of House of Waters and has released eight albums on the GroundUP Music label by Snarky Puppy. Manu Delago and Max ZT will release their debut album “Deuce” in early 2026, followed by a worldwide concert tour. From the first note, concertgoers are transported into a world that feels both ancient and somehow completely new.
