Description

Mallet was founded in 1979 by Manfred Dünzl (bass, vocals, guitar), Peter Wenke (lead vocals, keyboards, guitar), Stephan Ohnhaus (lead guitar), Hansi Wuttke (keyboards, vocals), and Wilmont Schulze (drums, vocals) as a school band. However, the five friends had to borrow drummer Jochen Hirschberg for their first two performances, as Wilmont still needed to learn how to play the drums. At the group's second performance, Daniel Zehm opened the show with his acoustic guitar. After a wild after-party, he was quickly hired as a second lead guitarist. Suddenly, guitarist Stephan Ohnhaus switched to the Crackers, and Peter Wenke began working on some New Wave productions. The singer was later replaced by the former roadie of the band, Porky Kronier, who later became Nize Boyz. They simply taught him how to sing, and he had to go on stage. This step was primarily taken out of friendship but turned out to be extremely successful. Shortly thereafter, in 1980, Mallet began recording their first LP “Dance with the devil” at Platinum Studio (Zurich/Switzerland). This significantly increased their fan base. Their performance capacity grew immensely, and they had their first smaller tours (including a performance at the legendary Onkel Pö's Carnegie Hall in Hamburg). The material became much harder (heavy metal like Mötley Crüe, Dokken, Quiet Riot) – which Stefan and Peter could not accept, leading them to leave the band. Not wanting to work without a second guitarist, the band completed itself with Texan guitarist Kurt Harley. In November 2004, Mallet celebrated its 25th anniversary. This anniversary was to become another highlight in the band's history. Preparations and planning for this began as early as 2003. The entire organization and planning were handled by Mallet, now also with the support of the Mallet fan club. Celebrating a quarter-century of successful rock music had to be done properly. Almost all former Mallet members attended this anniversary. Due to overwhelming public interest, the Bürgerhaus in Kiedrich was nearly bursting at the seams. Mallet fans came from all over Germany, and even from Austria, France, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, and the USA. The concert became a highlight in Mallet's story. For almost 5 hours, they rocked as hard as they could. Guests still rave about that evening. In 2009, the 30th anniversary was celebrated outdoors at the Hockenberger Mühle in Wiesbaden-Kloppenheim. This time, nearly all former members participated in the concert, and since it was outdoors, the visitor record from the 25th anniversary was significantly surpassed. In 2015, they began working on their 11th album “Man on fire” with Markus Teske at Bazement Studio, which was released in 2016. At the end of August 2019, Mallet celebrated its 40th anniversary again in the beautiful setting of the Hockenberger Mühle. In the same year, Mallet began a new studio production at Horus Sound Studio Hannover. Under the direction of Arne Neurand, the last album “Rock'n'Roll Heroes” was created, which was officially released in January 2020 and is still receiving worldwide attention. © Heaven Music Club
