Description
Workshop with Brigitte Kemmann. Many are probably familiar with Anni Albers (1899-1994) as one of the leading Bauhaus figures of the 20th century in the field of textile design and textile art. She was the first textile artist to be given a solo exhibition by the Museum of Modern Art in New York (1949), followed by a series of other exhibitions, including last year at the Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern and this year in Vienna. Inspired by some artifacts of Mexican culture that she discovered during her first trip to Mexico in 1935/36, Anni Albers developed an unusual jewelry collection at Black Mountain College together with Alexander Reed, made from everyday objects such as washer disks, paper clips, or drain sieves. Instead of gold or silver, they focused on the beauty of simple materials. For Albers, the value of the jewelry was not in the material but in the idea and the creative power that transforms ordinary things into special objects. An event as part of the exhibition at Galerie Macelleria d’Arte by Francesco Bonanno, presenting the project "Kunsthaus am Roten Platz," a cultural initiative dedicated to contemporary art and the encounter of various artistic disciplines in the heart of St. Gallen.
