Description
Handel's Messiah and Mozart's Requiem are interwoven in this concert. Handel composed the Messiah in just 24 days; Mozart later created his own version with new wind parts and German text. A few years later, Mozart began his Requiem, which Süssmayr completed.
The program combines both works by interrupting the Requiem at three points and supplementing it with music and text from the Messiah. This creates a dialogue about Jesus' life, birth, passion, death, and resurrection. The light motif at the end of the Latin requiem mass is expanded in content and heard earlier through the Messiah inserts.
The entire concert spans a journey from Christmas through Easter back to Advent and Christmas, aiming to provide comfort.
The Madrigalchor Wetzikon, conducted by Chasper-Curò Mani, is instrumentally accompanied by the Schaffhauser Baroque Ensemble, conducted by Johanna Pfister.
Soloists are: Anna Gschwend, soprano / Gianna Lunardi, alto / Zacharie Fogal, tenor and Niklaus Kost, bass.
