Description

Criminal Psychology of Serial Murder
Most people cannot and do not want to imagine killing another person. Therefore, it seems all the more incomprehensible why a small group of people repeatedly decide to do exactly that to satisfy their own needs. For decades, research has been conducted to understand which psychological factors distinguish people who commit serial murders from others. What motives lie behind their actions? What can help prevent such acts? Although societal and media interest in serial murders has been high for decades, few know that serial murders have been declining internationally for many years. There are scientifically based explanations for this as well.
Criminal psychologist Lydia Benecke presents the current state of scientific knowledge on the topic of serial murder with exciting case examples. About Lydia Benecke:
Lydia Benecke is a bestselling author and criminal psychologist. Born in Poland, raised in the Ruhr area, she studied psychology with a focus on psychopathology and forensic psychology at Ruhr University Bochum. She works in an outpatient clinic for people who have committed sexual offenses and with male violent offenders in a social-therapeutic prison.
Through her non-fiction bestsellers, podcasts, and other media projects, she conveys the exciting world of criminal psychology to a broad audience. These include the books "On Thin Ice: The Psychology of Evil," "Sadists: Deadly Love," "Psychopaths: The Psychology of Female Evil," the podcasts WTF Talk - Science Meets Friendship and Melody of Crime, as well as appearances as an expert in the ARD Crime Time format "The Case" and in special broadcasts of Aktenzeichen XY... solved.
