New Zealand, 1954. Bourgeois stuffiness, narrow-mindedness, and boredom dominate everyday life. The two teenagers Pauline and Juliet try to escape the dreariness by dreaming themselves into a medieval fantasy world. They are despised by the environment, misunderstood by their parents, and subtly accused of homosexuality. Everything is done to destroy the friendship of the two girls. When Juliet is to be sent to relatives in South Africa, the duo wants to prevent this with a murder.

Based on a true murder case in the New Zealand province, the later «Lord of the Rings» director Peter Jackson created a beautiful love melodrama with thriller elements.
