Description
"She is a miserable housewife, but a very good actress," said her husband, the composer Kurt Weill, about Lotte Lenya, an exceptional artist of the 20th century. Born in 1898 as Karoline Blamauer in precarious conditions in Vienna, died in 1981 as Lotte Lenya in New York. In between, a wild ride through European and American theater, film, and music history. Work, love, and friendships connected her with Franz Wedekind, Max Ernst, Marlene Dietrich, Max Reinhardt, Leonard Bernstein, Theodor W. Adorno, Elisabeth Bergner, or Tilly Lösch. After laying the foundation for her career at the Pfauentheater, she achieved overnight success as Seeräuberjenny in the world premiere of "The Threepenny Opera" in Berlin. As a cunning Russian secret agent in James Bond's "From Russia with Love," she gained worldwide fame. An Oscar nomination finally crowned her Hollywood career. Together with pianist Peter Estermann and trombonist Andreas Tschopp as well as artist Samantha Aquilino, Tini Prüfert dedicates a musical evening to the extraordinary Lotte Lenya with songs by Kurt Weill to bring Lenya's artistic work to life in the mirror of her time.
