Description

Orfeo is the first pop star of the Western world. He is surrounded by people and animals, even stones succumb to his singing. Finally, he has also won the woman who is supposed to make his happiness complete: Euridice. The two are the perfect glamorous couple, no wonder the fans go wild when the dream wedding is announced. But in the middle of the celebrations, Euridice dies from a snake bite. Used to everything succeeding for him, the star, Orfeo sets out to bring Euridice back from the afterlife. But Pluto, the master of the underworld, sets Orfeo a fateful condition. The opera "L’Orfeo", described by its composer CLAUDIO MONTEVERDI (1567–1643) as a "favola in musica", premiered in 1607 in Mantua, tells the story of the mythical singer Orpheus, who descends into the underworld after the death of his beloved to bring her back through the power of his singing. The fable turns tragic when Orpheus, who was previously forbidden to look back when leaving hell, loses her again through that very glance. With dramatic power, intense emotionality, and a straightforward plot, Monteverdi created a new musical genre, the "dramma per musica".
