Live Lecture: Sweden

Sweden, the land of endless forests, vast high mountain plateaus, and crystal-clear lakes, is a paradise for active travelers. Walter Steinberg and Siglinde Fischer hiked over 1200 km through Sweden, on the Kungsleden, the most famous Swedish long-distance trail, in Sarek, on the Padjelantaleden, and in Helagsfjall. Even in the deepest winter, they traveled on snowshoes in the last wilderness of Europe. Biting cold and dancing northern lights accompany the two adventurers on their journeys to the Arctic Circle. In northern Sweden, they participated several times in reindeer roundups and gained deep insight into the culture of the Sami, the indigenous people of northern Sweden. For weeks, they were kayaking in arctic Sweden on Torneträsk. In the south, they paddled for months through the archipelago of Stockholm and, of course, also visited the Venice of the North: Stockholm, the liveliest metropolis of Sweden. Along the way, they repeatedly met descendants of the Vikings, who with wit and spirit have made Sweden one of the most beautiful countries in Europe.
