Description
Descendant of a line of Andalusian women, Lola Cam carries within her an ancestral heritage: generation after generation, the women of her family pass down fabric hearts containing papers on which they have written their lives and secrets. Five sewn hearts thus rest in her wardrobe, carefully safeguarding the family’s matrimonial memory. When a novelist settles in her village for a few months to write her next book, it’s obvious: their paths cross, collide, and clash at the very moment one of the hearts tears.
Moving from novel to stage, Martine Corbat and playwright Carine Corajoud enter Carole Martinez’s language as one would venture step by step into a forest, with its shadows and silhouettes. Sign after sign, they sculpt this carved and lush writing in which wonder and reality coexist. Then appear fabulous characters straight out of a fairy tale and enchanting stories that blur the line between worlds even more. Tracing the course of a family tree, they question the impact of our ancestors’ traumas on the present, from a transgenerational perspective. How does resilience allow us to rebuild and free ourselves from the weight of the past?
