Le Parfum du Roi: THE MONKEY DANCES

Description

What if the monkey from Kafka's report had already made its way to Europe much earlier? The ensemble Le Parfum du Roi embarks on an exciting journey through time, about 200 years before the events in Kafka's story, to another country, another culture, and another music. At the beginning of the 18th century, the monkey Rotpeter is captured. To escape the agonizing confinement of his cage, he sees only one way out: to become human. In a drunken stupor, he learns to speak, and the baroque dance art to the music of Lully, Couperin, and Rameau makes him socially acceptable. His rise leads him to the court of Louis XIV. In the splendor of Versailles, the Sun King becomes his shining role model. Just as Louis XIV denies his human nature to be fully king, Rotpeter denies his animal nature to be fully human. In doing so, he unwittingly becomes a witness to a dying era. Ensemble Le Parfum du Roi
