• On 30.08., in the presence of director Fabrice Aragno, Fabrice Aragno's feature film debut takes its audience on an extremely sensual and sometimes almost transcendent journey. With a casual, anecdotal plot – a couple participating in a sailing regatta on Lake Geneva – the director creates a film that recalls landscape painting and various currents of cinema, yet is truly unique in its conception and radiance. LE LAC impresses with stunning views of the sky, delicate water reflections at night, carefully selected shots and angles, compositions that emphasize the clear separation of foreground and background, as well as a pronounced ability to capture the uniqueness of light tones and color nuances. Having worked closely with Jean-Luc Godard since 2002, Aragno is accustomed to putting technology at the service of experimentation. In LE LAC, we find sudden changes in aspect ratio, optical deviations, and a recurring engagement with speed and stillness, sound and silence. Passages of extreme calm and tranquility are followed by others pulsating with unspoken tension and mystery. Despite its majestic beauty and reverence, LE LAC also conveys a painful feeling – a kind of longing and need that goes hand in hand with the healing powers of nature.
