André Campra (1660-1744) | Messe de Requiem (1695) Michel-Richard de Lalande (1657-1726) | Te Deum (4th version, ca. 1720) Cantate Basel opens the doors for the audience to a central, still too little-known conductor of Notre-Dame de Paris, the French Baroque composer André Campra. Since the 12th century, polyphonic music has developed in Notre-Dame, and during the reign of Louis XIV, the "Grand Siècle," it experienced another bloom. This culminated in Campra's "Messe de Requiem" from 1695. As a masterpiece of the French High Baroque, it achieves a bright, delicately translucent architecture of sound. Only in 2024 was the fourth and final version of the "Te Deum," which Michel-Richard de Lalande revised between 1720 and 1726, published by the Centre de musique baroque Versailles. It was created simultaneously with the return of Louis XV from Paris to Versailles after seven years of regency. This version of the "Te Deum" is the ultimate testament to Lalande's long and brilliant career at court. For more than fifty years, he served the king, at the head of the "Musique de la Chapelle" and the "Musique de la Chambre." The Capriccio Baroque Orchestra will perform on the rare instruments of the low pitch a' = 392 Hz (a whole tone below today's standard), which gives the string and woodwind instruments their legendary and particularly dark timbre. Cantate Basel, along with the high-caliber vocal soloists and the Capriccio Baroque Orchestra, looks forward to a highly rewarding original sound journey for the mind and soul!
