Description

Created in 1821, Le Freischütz marks the birth of European romantic opera, where luminous forces and dark powers clash in the heart of a wild nature. This production offers an exceptional rediscovery: the French version performed by Hector Berlioz in 1841 for the Paris Opera. By replacing spoken dialogues with sung recitatives, it provides a smoother form, entirely guided by the score. At the heart of the work, young Max must prove himself to marry the one he loves. Torn between fear of failure and temptation of dark forces, he enters into a pact that surpasses him. A simple, tense story that unfolds like a fairy tale, revealed by immediately evocative music. The immersive and contemporary staging combines minimalist scenography with visual projections to enhance the performance of the soloists. Performed by the voices of Rémy Burnens, Laurence Guillod, Manuel Mas, Rubén Amoretti, Jérémie Broccard, Sylvain Muster, Rémi Ortega, and Léonie Renaud, this project celebrates the meeting of two musical traditions and offers a new interpretation of this foundational work.
