Inspired by Václav Havel's work Perpetuum mobile. They are often nearly invisible and nameless, yet they instill fear in the most powerful. Those who dared to step out of line and express their stance in tyrannical regimes. Most of them will probably never appear on magazine covers, yet their stories of courage and determination spread uncontrollably – like modern myths whispered in the privacy of kitchens and living rooms. Stories that give others hope that the world can be at least a little better. Stories that bring a ray of light into absolute darkness. The life stories of writers, journalists, students, artists, workers, and many others are increasingly accumulating day by day across totalitarian states. One such story is that of a playwright whose life journey led from a political prison cell to the presidential office. Václav Havel, one of the most famous dissidents in history, wrote in a letter to his wife from his cell at the beginning of 1989 an absurd farce about what it means to be a convict. It is the only text by Havel that contains instructions for creating non-verbal theater. The libretto, written under the title Perpetuum mobile, caught the artistic director of Laterna magika, Radim Vizváry. He invited Petr Boháč to direct, who, along with performer Roman Zotov-Mikshin, is preparing a production telling the story of an unnamed prisoner. In addition to Havel's prison experience and his text, other sources of inspiration include the personal testimony of Belarusian prisoner of conscience Palina Šarendy–Panasjuk, artistic installations, and the words spoken by contemporary Russian political prisoners in courtrooms. The production utilizes physical theater techniques with significant contributions from video projections. Suitable for audiences aged 15 and up.
