Description

Guitarist Mareille Merck originally comes from the rugged Baltic Sea coast but has been living in Switzerland since 2016 and has earned a firm place in the local and international jazz scene - among other things as the leader of the trio LARUS. After many years of successful collaboration with Florian Bolliger and Janic Haller, the trio will shake up concert halls in 2026 with a new international lineup. With the Western Swiss bassist Louise Knobil and the Cologne drummer Hendrik Eichler, Merck has found two as creative as reliable companions to bring her compositions to life. LARUS, named after the silver gull, was nominated for the ZKB Jazz Prize (2021) and released two highly praised albums, "Fadenschlag" (2021) and "Stille Wasser" (2023) - both co-produced with Swiss Radio SRF 2 Kultur.
Merck, who has already shared the stage with greats like star guitarist John McLaughlin and teaches jazz guitar at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, weaves characteristic influences from fingerstyle techniques and rock realms with clear jazzy structures in the trio context.
