Description
The main person in this concert is the composer Dimitri Terzakis, former professor of composition at the Bern University of the Arts (1990 to 1997). One of the most musically influential impressions he experienced was on the holy Mount Athos. It was the music of the Greek Orthodox Church practiced there, whose tonal system is a successor of the ancient one. There he realized that it does not require complicated technical means to compose good music. All participants of this concert are still friendly with the composer. He has written his new piece "Messages" for clarinet and piano for clarinetist Stephan Siegenthaler and pianist Kolja Lessing, and it will have its world premiere at this concert. Godparents, or in other words: composers, will welcome it among their compositions, some of which are also world premieres. A message from the Greek mountains to the Swiss Alps. Jean-Luc Darbellay and Ursula Gut were students of Dimitri Terzakis in Bern. Other works by Bernese composers include pieces by Hans Eugen Frischknecht and Pierre-André Bovey. The finale of this "Homage" is the Sonata for bass clarinet and piano op.41. This is an important piece for this deep wind instrument, which has gained great significance in contemporary music since then.
