Description

Magda leaves her wealthy benefactor when she meets the young Ruggero. However, the feeling of first love cannot be repeated. Puccini's «La rondine» (The Swallow), created as a commissioned work for the Vienna Carl Theater, is an unusual blend of opera and operetta that puzzled critics: too heavy for some, too light for others. Despite multiple revisions of the ending, Puccini regarded his «troubled child» as a gem that is still rarely performed today. Christof Loy directs this work as an impressive rediscovery. The musical direction is by Marco Armiliato.
