Description

On the port of Lesbos, a strange fisherman offers a peculiar merchandise. Opposite him, a customer hesitates, questions, negotiates, without really knowing if she is trying to buy... or to redeem herself. Between the two, a dialogue that is both simple and disconcerting reveals the fate of refugees and echoes our own contradictions. Winner of the Prix Femina and former director of Le Monde, Éric Fottorino signs a no-holds-barred account of the Mediterranean tragedy and its tragic banalization. Driven by two performers of great presence, the text unfolds like a sensitive score where silences are as important as words. Here, the values of welcome, mutual aid, and solidarity gradually regain their weight and necessity. Faced with a sea turned open-air cemetery, this contemporary fable invites us, without ever forcing, to stop turning away and to transform indignation into reflection, leaving our hearts alert.
