But sometimes life has a very special surprise in store: Roger Glover, bassist for Deep Purple—one of the greatest rock bands of all time—is joining us for a Special Edition of KUEFERtalk! Unbelievable, but true. GISELA FEUZ, a culture and music journalist at SRF, will host this English-language evening. A graduate in German and English, she has been a fixture on the Swiss music scene for many years and is also the frontwoman of the punk band The Monofones. ROGER GLOVER
DEEP PURPLE
Roger Glover is one of the defining figures in rock history. As the bassist, songwriter, and producer for Deep Purple, he played a pivotal role in the success of one of the most influential rock bands of all time. In the early 1970s, he contributed to legendary albums such as *In Rock*, *Fireball*, *Machine Head*, and the landmark live album *Made in Japan*. ​ Roger Glover has a particularly close connection to the history of Montreux: In 1971, when Deep Purple was planning to record their album *Machine Head* at the Montreux Casino, a fire destroyed the building. This event inspired the band to write what is arguably their most famous song, “Smoke on the Water,” which remains one of the most iconic rock songs in music history to this day! In addition to his work with Deep Purple, Roger Glover also made a name for himself as a successful producer, collaborating with artists such as Nazareth, Rory Gallagher, and Judas Priest. In 2016, he was inducted into the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” as a member of Deep Purple. Today, Roger Glover lives in the Fricktal region with his wife, Myriam, and their two children. The global superstar values his peace and quiet and is now rarely available for personal talk events. We are therefore all the more delighted to welcome Roger Glover to Schinznach for an exclusive special talk. ​
