Description
The third concert in the series unfolds a dialogue between two poles of 20th-century French music - Maurice Ravel and Olivier Messiaen. The first half of the evening is dedicated to Ravel and the theme of musical exoticism: the sensual Arabic coloring of Shéhérazade and arrangements of Greek and Jewish folk songs create a colorful palette of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern motifs. The second half features the central work of the program: Messiaen's monumental cycle Harawi. Chant d’amour et de mort, the first part of his "Tristan Trilogy." Based on Andean folklore and Peruvian myths, Messiaen reinterprets the eternal story of Tristan and Isolde. Program
