Concert Nothing ever fell. Music by Morton Feldman

Description

The fourth and final concert of the series "Vocal Parallels" features British soprano Juliet Fraser with Morton Feldman's Three Voices (1982). The work combines two pre-recorded vocal voices with a live sung voice. It is based on verses from Frank O’Hara's poem Wind, which was dedicated to the composer. In 2026, both Feldman and O’Hara would have celebrated their 100th birthdays. The structure of the work is spatial: one voice sings to itself and to its doppelgängers, which are present through speakers in the room. At the same time, Three Voices was a homage to Feldman's recently deceased friend, painter Philip Guston – the piece is understood as funeral music. It is also a tribute to O’Hara. After his fatal accident, verses about falling, which carry higher than the usual flight into the sun, were found in his pocket. Feldman saw the speakers as gravestones – creating the impression that a living voice is in contact with two artists. Program
