On Friday, November 20, 2026, at 7:00 PM, the Rehmann Museum transforms into a vibrant sound space for the moment. As part of the current exhibition «Mo Diener – Hologram», pianist Claudia Ulla Binder and double bassist Alexander Frangenheim meet to capture the sparks of the moment.
The two share a long-standing artistic familiarity, which has deepened through the spatial proximity of their residences in Hochrhein and the South Black Forest. During their performance at the Rehmann Museum, they deliberately avoid fixed sheet music structures or a rigid concert program. The focus is on pure joy of playing and the shared, creative risk: Binder and Frangenheim let their sounds emerge directly from the atmosphere of the space. They respond sensitively to the architecture of the museum, the artworks on display, and the vibrations in the audience. Thus, the evening becomes an unrepeatable experience that carries its own energy directly to the audience.
Both bring decades of international experience in the border area of jazz and new music:
Claudia Ulla Binder gained decisive impulses in the 1980s in the New York scene around the legendary Creative Music Studio in Woodstock. She breaks the classical boundaries of her instrument and is known for her precise playing inside the piano. By plucking, strumming, or dampening the strings directly, she elicits entirely new, unheard sound colors from the instrument.
Alexander Frangenheim, after his classical studies, worked for years in London, Paris, and Berlin with leading figures of the avant-garde. He is not only anchored as a curator of international festivals (such as «concepts of doing»), but recently demonstrated at the renowned Ulrichsberger Kaleidophon Festival 2026 how compellingly he can develop musical tension arcs on the spot.
The chemistry between the two is also evident in their forward-looking perspective: a newly founded international quartet with French vocal artist Isabelle Duthoit and New York drummer Joe Hertenstein is already in the starting blocks. However, at the Rehmann Museum, the stage belongs entirely to the immediate, sensitive dialogue between double bass and piano.
