Description
Sometimes quiet, sometimes loud, sometimes fragile, sometimes intense, sometimes romantic, sometimes mystical. It is this clear and warm choral sound that has made the Regensburg Cathedral Sparrows famous and unmistakable for decades. Founded in 975 in Regensburg as a cathedral school, the Cathedral Sparrows, with their now 1050-year tradition, are one of the most renowned boys' choirs worldwide. No matter where the young musicians perform, the applause sounds the same in all languages of the world: enthusiastic. The young singers take their listeners on a musical journey through the epochs of music. To be heard are, among others, sacred works by Bach, Palestrina, Mendelssohn, and Bruckner, interwoven with secular songs. The probably oldest boys' choir in the world presents itself as a lively and dynamic a cappella ensemble. Look forward to a lively piece of music and cultural history! And a success story for over 1050 years! Since September 2019, Christian Heiß (*1967) has been the cathedral music director in Regensburg and thus the head of the Regensburg Cathedral Sparrows. Since 2024, the Regensburg Cathedral Sparrows have been part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage as one of the "Four Boys' Choirs of Bavaria."
