Komoco: «Chora»

Description

The ancient Greek word «CHORA» means "space" or "region," and at the same time describes a state of creative openness. In Homer's "Odyssey," "Chora" stands for the farmland that every city needed to exist. "Chora" describes a quiet field full of possibilities, the space that surrounds us and in which everything begins. With sensual movement language and great sensitivity, Sofia Nappi's new work "CHORA – the void as origin" explores emptiness as a tangible presence – around us, between us, within us. The starting point is listening: to breath, to gravity, to movement. From this attention arises rhythm; from gestures grows a collective flow. What seemed empty reveals itself full of life. The Italian choreographer SOFIA NAPPI studied dance at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York and then deepened her studies internationally. A special influence on her work was the close contact with Hofesh Shechter and her engagement with the dance language of Ohad Naharin. In 2022, she founded her company Komoco based in Florence. Her work quickly established itself on the most important theater and festival stages. Today, Sofia Nappi works, among others, for the Staatsballett Hannover, the Nederlands Dans Theater 2, and the Scottish Dance Theatre. Komoco was last a guest in 2024 with "Pupo" at the Stadttheater.
