When a guitarist fell ill during the Belgian Nachwuchswettbewerb in 2019, Amber Piddington stepped in at short notice. What started as a makeshift solution became the catalyst for Kids With Buns – a duo now considered one of Europe's most exciting indie voices. Marie Van Uytvanck and Amber Piddington named themselves after the song "Kids With Guns" by Gorillaz and found their strength in simplicity: two guitars, an unusually deep voice, lyrics that do not shy away. Early singles like "Bad Grades" and "1712" quickly gained popularity, and winning "De Nieuwe Lichting" by Studio Brussel in 2021 catapulted them into the spotlight. "Bad Grades" climbed to the top of radio charts and amassed millions of streams. But numbers only tell half the story. What matters is how these songs sound: like quiet confessions in the semi-darkness of a teenage bedroom and at the same time like anthems for those who feel "out of place." With the debut album "Out of Place," the focus shifted. Where bedroom pop used to whisper, now indie rock roars. Inspired by Nick Drake, Ben Howard, and the uncompromising openness of Girl in Red, Kids With Buns are taking a step into louder sounds. Since they have been accompanied by a solid band, with Stijn Konings on bass and Dajo Vlaeminckx on drums, their songs have gained new weight on stage. "We wanted to rock more," says Amber. And indeed: pieces like "Nothing New" or "The Balance" carry a force that only reveals its full urgency live. Anyone who experiences one of their concerts feels that it’s not about posing. It’s about teenage angst, queer growing up in a often still homophobic environment, about the feeling of not meeting expectations. After shows, young fans talk about comfort and support. Perhaps that is the secret of this duo: They do not romanticize anything. They say that growing up sometimes simply hurts and that there is a peculiar beauty in that. In fall 2026, Kids With Buns will come to Germany for three concerts. A good opportunity to be shaken live by these "sad bangers."

Kids With Buns, consisting of Amber Piddington and Marie Van Uytvanck, are presenting their music at Nochtspeicher in Hamburg. After their breakthrough with the hit "Bad Grades" and winning "De Nieuwe Lichting" in 2021, they now showcase their development towards a more powerful indie rock sound.
