The evening begins where music most directly arises from the community: with folk songs. When the choirs of the Gymnasiums Münchenstein and Oberwil sing songs from various countries, it becomes clear that longing, joy, and melancholy are universal human constants. These songs are musical ambassadors of peace, building cultural bridges. Following this, we have one of the liveliest orchestral works from Mozart's early years, Symphony No. 17, and then his Piano Concerto 'Jeunehomme', interpreted by the young virtuoso Dmitry Ishkhanov. This concert breaks with rigid role models: soloist and orchestra meet on equal terms – a musical collaboration in full mutual respect. In the second part, the stage belongs to Béla Bartók. His lifelong collection of folk music from various cultures was a quiet protest against the nationalism of his time – and a confession to humanity. This is wonderfully audible in the Romanian Folk Dances and the Divertimento for Strings.
