To be pierced, also to be stabbed through is a moment of injury, a vulnerable point, a shock. But it is also: a flash of clarity, transparency, a passage, a liberating connection. Or as Junge Eko describes it herself: a series of reorientations after a break. And these orientations gather on the new album called Pierced (June17th). Junge Eko is the solo project of Swiss musician, composer, and performer Catia Lanfranchi. Voice, bass, organ, and speech are the formative elements for a smoky, deep songwriting with a long breath, which, occasionally enriched with field recordings and restrained electronics, reveals an all-encompassing offering. Pierced (June17th) is a minimal, mindful album. And at the same time woven and heavy. The breaks are at most suggested, states are sketched faintly, and despite the sometimes diffuse and brief sketches, the album's night-clear atmosphere extends into infinity, one might think. The emergence of long-time companions like Hora Lunga and Tapiwa Svosve does not break this, on the contrary: they contribute. As if the conjuring of this melancholic clarity has been learned as a common language. The album Pierced (June17th) will be released on September 4th on the label Warm Winters Ltd.
