Description
In a time of increasing social tensions and declining trust in government institutions, Heilig Abend makes an artistic statement for dialogue, reflection, and civil courage. It is Christmas Eve. Judith, a philosophy professor, is arrested on her way to her parents. The accusation: She is alleged to have planned a terrorist attack with her ex-husband at midnight. What follows is not an ordinary interrogation but a 90-minute psychological duel with investigator Thomas, who seems to know everything about her: her work, her thoughts, her emails. Language becomes a weapon. Arguments for defense. The audience witnesses a moral experiment. How far can the state go to ensure security? How far can a person go to stay true to their beliefs? The play explores a tension that could hardly be more current — freedom and control, truth and manipulation, individual conviction and state power. It condenses on a small scale what happens in society on a large scale: the erosion of dialogue, the mixing of opinion and guilt, growing distrust in institutions. An invitation to resume the conversation — about questions that are no longer abstract. Heilig Abend is chamber theater in its most concentrated form: two people, one room, no escape — for the characters and the audience.
