LUKAS PFEIL | Saxophone MARTIN SÖRÖS | Piano JOEL LOCHER | Double Bass JOHANNES HAMM | Drums What happens when two musicians with kindred spirits meet in the vibrant Stuttgart jazz scene? A band that sounds as if jazz has been waiting for them. Pianist Martin Sörös and tenor saxophonist Lukas Pfeil met in Stuttgart – and quickly discovered that on stage they are much more than the sum of their parts. With the Sörös-Pfeil Group, the two bandleaders created a platform for their very own sound – inspired by greats like Kenny Garrett and Joshua Redman, infused with hip-hop grooves and neo-soul harmonies, but always anchored in the aesthetics of mainstream jazz. Original compositions meet arrangements of jazz standards, all marked by a distinctive, shared signature. In 2021, the quartet formed in its current lineup and recorded the debut album «Joint Venture» in Munich, which was released in autumn 2023. Since then, the group has been playing jazz clubs, festivals, and concert halls in German-speaking Europe, impressing with a live energy that stems from genuine musical connection. Lukas Pfeil | Tenor Saxophone
studied jazz saxophone at the Cologne University of Music. He then completed a master's degree at Queens College in New York. His main subjects there were 'Jazz Saxophone' with Prof. Antonio Hart and 'Composition/Arrangement' with Prof. Michael Mossman. After graduating, he returned to Germany and worked as a freelance musician in Stuttgart. In 2018 and 2019, he traveled to Brazil for several concerts with the Felipe Silveira Trio. Since 2019, he has been leading the monthly concert series 'The Sound of Jazz' at the Stuttgart jazz club 'Kiste'. In 2022, he toured Germany with saxophonist Eric Alexander from New York. In 2022, he received a teaching position for jazz and popular music at the Louis Spohr Music Academy in Kassel. His concert activities have brought him on stage with artists such as Dusko Goykovich, Joe Gallardo, Lillo Scrimali, Fola Dada, Paul Heller, Adrian Mears, and Thorsten Skringer. Martin Sörös | Piano
After graduating from the musically oriented Schillergymnasium in Heidenheim, he studied from 2010 to 2014 at the University of Music in Nuremberg. He was taught by Prof. Martin Schrack, Prof. Klaus Graf, and Prof. Steffen Schorn. From 2014 to 2017, he completed his master's degree with Prof. Hubert Nuss at the HDMK Stuttgart. In 2012, he won 3rd prize at the Bruno-Rother competition of the Rotary Club Nuremberg-Fürth, which he finally won in 2013. With the Jan Prax Quartet, he played in 2013 at the Leverkusen Jazz Days in front of David Sanborn, Steve Gadd, and Bob James. In January 2014, this concert was broadcast on WDR JazzLine on television. In this lineup, he won the Sparda Jazz Award and the Czech Jazz Contest in 2014. In 2014, he won the solo improvisation competition of the Lions Club Stuttgart-Schlossgarten and in 2016 the Yamaha Jazz Piano competition. Joel Locher | Bass
from Stuttgart is a busy and highly respected double bassist in modern jazz, gypsy jazz, classical music, Brazilian music, and more. He studied classical double bass at the Stuttgart University of Music. In addition, he played and worked with the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the Bach Academy Stuttgart, the GermanPops Orchestra, and dozens of internationally renowned musicians. He has toured all over Europe and internationally in Japan, Canada, Korea, Turkey, New Zealand, Australia, Africa, and more. Joel Locher's debut album “Intensity of Bass” was released at the end of 2018 on the GLM label, and the CD «live at Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen» was released in June 2022. Johannes Hamm | Drums
Johannes Hamm earned his bachelor's degree at the Mannheim University of Music with stays abroad in Basel and Salvador da Bahia in Brazil. In 2019, he received a graduate scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service and studied until December 2021 at New York University with drum legends such as Billy Drummond (Sonny Rollins, Horace Silver), Ari Hoenig, and Lenny White (Freddie Hubbard, Chick Corea). As a drummer, he has performed in numerous clubs and festivals across Germany over the past eleven years. With Convective Ideas, SYNK, and Searching For Something, he has released three albums under his own name. He is also featured on seven other productions in pop, rock, and jazz.
