Ah, youth! Wouldn't we all like to be 16 again? No, Jane Mumford would rather not. She was never interested in romantic "coming-of-age" stories. What could possibly be romantic about a time full of pimples, overwhelm, and pressure to perform?! As a child, the world seemed magical to her, but as a teenager, only this mattered: being cool, belonging, finding true love... and eventually achieving something before you die! ​ Jane Mumford therefore spent her teenage years lonely and withdrawn as a step-dancing Gothic rocker due to the overwhelming pressure. Because the only cure for the fear of not belonging is: not wanting to be part of it at all! Ha! Loneliness as self-empowerment! And maybe she never fully grew out of this teenage existence? Because sometimes she still catches herself trying to be "cool" and feels really uncool doing it. Then all the self-doubt, world-weariness, and overthinking - just like in the good old teenage days - come crashing down on her again... into the very, very dark shadows of the night.
