Description
Jakob Bänsch, Rising Star of European Jazz, combines impressionistic colors à la Debussy with modern jazz in „All The Others“. Poetry, intensity, and epic sound dramaturgy in the here and now.
The trumpeter and composer Jakob Bänsch is one of the most exciting rising stars of European jazz. The London Jazz News describes him as having a “mesmerizing, Bach-like intensity,” and the New York critic Bill Milkowski even compares him to the young Wynton Marsalis. His debut „Opening“ was awarded the German Jazz Prize 2024 as “Debut Album of the Year.” In 2025, followed „All The Others“ – a sound-rich fusion of impressionist classical music, modern jazz, and folk. Inspired by Ravel and Debussy, but also Shorter and Hancock.
Growing up near Pforzheim as the son of classical musicians, Bänsch received a dual upbringing between concert hall and jazz club. Stages in the State Youth Orchestra, the State Youth Jazz Orchestra Baden-Württemberg, and later the Federal Jazz Orchestra laid the foundation.
Today, he performs at renowned festivals such as the Leverkusen Jazz Days or Jazz Baltica, has worked with greats like Nathan East, Nils Landgren, Wolfgang Haffner, as well as Wolfgang Niedecken, and has appeared as a soloist with the WDR Big Band. With Niklas Roever (piano), Jakob Obleser (bass), and Leo Asal (drums), he develops a sound between poetry, symphonic dramaturgy, epic intensity, and virtuosity – unmistakably in the here and now.
